I have mentioned in previous posts that I was studying for a vocabulary contest. I hadn't expected anything to come of it, but one night I came home to discover that I was one of 50 to-be-contestant nationwide on the National Vocabulary Championship on the Game Show Network. I'm going to be flying out to L.A. on March 9th and competing the following day. It should air sometime in April. Any tips on studying vocab besides memorizing lists of words and spending indefinite amounts of time on www.freerice.com?
Wish me luck!

how long are you going to be in LA?
I arrive early Sunday afternoon and leave early Tuesday afternoon. I think my schedule's pretty packed, but I'm not sure as of yet.
Well congradulations, when you find out the time it's gonna air, write a facebook note and tag everyone (I assume your not allowed to tell us how you did before it airs). Enjoy the west coast.

Wow! Congrats!
When I used to do spelling bees, there were special booklets that could prepare you for the higher levels. I'm not sure if that would help, since words in spelling bees aren't necessarily harder per se, just harder to spell.
And we have a dictionary of difficult/obscure words, if you're interested in that. It's not huge, and I think it's pretty old--it's about the size of a paperback novel.
